If you have never heard of rakeback before or what it does or how important it is then you need to pay serious attention to this article. All online poker sites charge rake on a per hand basis that is taken from the pot in increments as the pot builds up to a maximum. This fee goes to the site operator and is lost forever. So what this means is that the player is being charged a fee for playing poker. This is all acceptable of course as the poker site is not in business to lose money and they have to make it from somewhere.

But as a novice player then you have two obstacles, you firstly have to overcome the problem of better players but also the obstacle of the site extracting money from the pots that you win. In order to make money from poker long term then you need to start treating it almost as a business. By that I mean you need to be very cognisant of the fact that you are being charged to play and you need to reduce your overheads by as much as possible.

If you can do this then not only will this save you a large amount of money over the space of a year but it will also provide you with a safety cushion of income that could be the difference between you being successful or not. Getting “rakeback” and sign up bonuses from poker sites is very important for novice players more so than professionals. As novice players then you simply need every available financial help that you can place your hands on.

Let us say that you play 20 hours a week at low stakes and generate $100 a week in rake for the casino. This is $100 that you would have made extra in the pots that you won if these pots were played without rake. But let us say that you could avail yourself of a 30% rakeback deal which means that you get $30 a week paid back into your account. This would equate to about $120/month in extra money.

Now let us take this a stage further and say that this player lost $120 each month and decided to stop playing after six months because he was fed up of losing money. The rakebake deal would have totally offset his losses and allowed him to break even. He would have been far happier after six months breaking even than having lost $720. He could have continued on playing and learning and then reached a stage where he was good enough to start winning money.

So in this instance the presence of the rakeback scheme not only allowed him to stay in the game but it also allowed him to see the future where he was good enough to be making money and could then make poker a second income stream. This is a key and often underrated aspect of getting rakeback.

Texas Hold’em is not a great form of poker to learn for so many different reasons but there are two huge reasons that hinder the progress of good players more than any other. The first reason is to do with how short stack players can almost totally offset the edge that a good player can and does have. As a very strong no-limit Texas Hold’em player (assuming that you are) then your edge will come from being able to outplay your opponents on later streets in deep stacked situations!

However against short stacked players then your big stack does you no good as the effective stacks are what are important. So if you have $100 and your opponent only has $15 then your extra $85 does you no good whatsoever. Also if the player with $15 is prepared to get all-in either pre-flop or on the flop then you cannot outplay them when skill really matters and that is deeper into the hand. Your opponent’s tactics and their stack size are not allowing you to do this.

If you have only one short stack player on your table then it isn’t a problem but every short stack player is reducing the number of bigger stack players who can take a seat at the table. Then when you get decent short stacked regulars who are multi-tabling then it isn’t difficult to see entire tables not being profitable. Imagine a situation where you have many short stacked multi-tabling regulars at a certain level, suddenly the entire level is polluted by short stacks and deep stacked players don’t have much by way of profit potential.

This is a serious problem but another big problem with No Limit Texas Hold’em is to do with the game being played with only two cards unlike Omaha which has four. This brings in a rather interesting dynamic because the number of hands that players can make in Texas hold’em and the quality of them are far lower than in Omaha and of course the knock on effect of this is that all of the hold’em players know how difficult it is to make a hand. So we then have a situation where bluffing and highly aggressive plays are far more prominent in hold’em and it is this that causes many novice and intermediate players an awful lot of trouble.

Because a player knows that it is difficult for his opponent to make hands in Texas hold’em once their sophistication reaches a certain level, this then causes them to play far more aggressively and fancy play syndrome becomes a problem. This is common with many intermediate players and certainly with novices because they end up being aggressive in the wrong situations and there is a name for these players and it is “LAGTARD”. Basically this means players who are loose aggressive but do not have the knowledge to identify the correct times to do so. This is all created by Texas hold’em being a two card poker game and not a four card one.

One would think that beating low-stakes Texas Hold’em poker games for any decent player should be a mere formality. By low-stakes, I mean levels like $2 games up to $10. The reality of the situation though is a lot different. The games are populated by weak players sure enough but they are also populated by minimum stack merchants and rake that is very high in proportion to the average pot size.

The average pot sizes are smaller so this means that the implied odds are nowhere near as great and this makes for an all round environment that isn’t easy. Then we have another problem, because the stakes are so low then you tend to get an awful lot of players messing about with their money. This should make it easier in theory and it does when these players get all-in with some very weak holdings.

But they can also call and raise with some very weak holdings as well and this in full-ring games can be an absolute nightmare for a player who is trying to play solid conventional poker. You may think that the best way to beat these players is to simply adjust but that’s just the problem, when you are trying to extract a decent earn rate by multi-tabling then it is hard to tell just who is messing around with their money or playing badly from those that are playing decent poker.

If you were using a tracker like Poker Office then you may be able to identify individual tendencies but many players simply do not use them at these levels. Playing micro-stakes and low-stakes poker really is nothing more than a recreational activity for these people so they do not want to start going down the avenue of taking their game to a whole new level of seriousness.

To cap it all off, we then have the low level unsophisticated cheating that goes off in these games. Some people believe that if anyone wanted to cheat at online poker that they would only do so at higher levels. This is not the case for several crucial reasons. To do so at higher levels would not only require a substantially larger bankroll but the players at these levels would be sophisticated enough to spot it and then report it to the site.

Most of the serious players at the higher levels use trackers like Poker Office or PokerTracker and so they would become aware of any nefarious practices even if the poker site in question were unaware. But you are on your own to a large extent at the lower levels and players can easily combine against you using simple devices like MSN.

Let us say that a player has AA and is first to speak and limps in. His accomplice is on the button with garbage but his sole role in this hand is to pump the pot for his team mate. You have QQ in middle position and raise, the player with garbage raises the minimum simply because he knows that his accomplice has aces. Now the pot is being dangerously escalated in a situation where you are a big dog in the hand. This cheating isn’t sophisticated but it is a serious problem if it isn’t being corrected.

In deep stacked no-limit Texas Holdem, one of the primary skills is in moulding the pot size to the strength of hand that you have. Often you need to balance two very important factors in deep stacked play, protecting your hand and not letting the pot get out of control. But let us look at protecting your hand for example and I am going to use a hand to show what I mean.

You open raise to $3.50 in a NL100 ring game and the button calls you making the pot $8.50. You have the As-Qs and the flop comes Ad-10h-9h.You bet $6 to “protect” your hand against the possible draws out there that may come in if you allow a free card by checking. Your opponent calls you making the pot $20.50 and the turn card is the 7d putting even more draws out there. You bet $17 and your opponent calls again making the pot $54.50.

The river card is the 2c and you are undecided whether you need to bet for value, check or use a stopper bet to prevent a big bluff. You decide that you will bet half the pot for value and as a stopper and bet $27 and your opponent min-raises you to $54. This now puts $135 into the pot and it is only $27 for you to call and with pot odds of 5/1 then that is simply too good to miss so you call even though you suspect the worst.

Your opponent shows A-10 for top two pair and you feel agitated at losing around $80 in this situation. But when you have the philosophy and the goal of “protecting your hand” then what you are actually doing is inflating the pot. For your own nightmare scenario to happen which is that your opponent hits his draw then two things basically have to happen!

Firstly your opponent has to have the exact draw that you think that they might have which in a heads up situation is unlikely. Plus even if they do have the draw that you think that they have then they still have to make the hand. A flush draw is nearly 2/1 against coming in by the river and a straight draw is more than 2/1 and nearly 5/1 to arrive on any one individual street.

If you check then your opponent may check behind you but your hand only wants so much action anyway and you cannot allow several bets to go into the pot with only one pair. You have to remember that your opponent is acting after you so he isn’t putting money into the pot with nothing is he?

You checking could entice a bluff on later streets or a weaker hand could call on later streets simply because there are fewer rounds until the end. A player is more likely to call on the river with 9-9 on an A-8-4-6-J board than they would be on the flop or turn with the prospect of several more bets to come. So checking can gain value on later streets but its just that checking seems to scare people and the thought of losing a pot and being outdrawn seems to terrify certain people. This is why they lose big pots after getting pot committed too often.

The year is winding down to its final few weeks. Many of us have played hundreds and even thousands of online poker cash game sessions and poker tournaments. Cash game and live poker players are starting to count up their wins and losses in order to establish how well they have done for the year in hopes of improving in 2010. Do you know how much your game has progressed over the past 12 months? If not, then you probably want to establish some goals going into the new year.
Why should I establish goals?
Goals allow us to measure our performance over the long term and short term. By keeping track of how well I am doing I can establish trends that will help me define just how well I am doing each session or even from poker tournament to poker tournament. By harvesting this data on a daily basis you begin to see where your game is and whether small tweaks and adjustments are helping your game or not. Without measuring how well you are playing you have no barometer other than guessing to establish where your game is at.
Document your Sessions / Tournaments
Gathering data on your game is relatively simple. You are going to want to record every Texas Hold’em Poker or Omaha cash game session you play and document your profits and losses for that session. You also want to take player notes on the players at your table. Player notes are not just for online poker players. Smart live poker players will take notes on their opponents too. The more information you have available to you the better off you will be. Tournament poker players should document the buy-in, place finished and also take player notes as well. Lastly, no matter what format you are playing in you should document key hands. You may not remember exactly what cards fell but most times you can remember the general gist of why you lost a pot or won one. This kind of information can be studied and analyzed for later. If you happen to be an online poker player you can simply browse through your hand histories or analyze your hand history with a number of products on today’s market.
Analysis
So now that you have gathered all of this information what should you do with it? The purpose in gathering all of this information is to improve your game. As I stated earlier your job is to view the information and pick up on things that appear to be out of the ordinary as well as things that fall within the normal threshold. I think it’s fair to say that if you are busting out of a 180 poker tournament in 120th place, 130th place, 90th place and 176th place that you may have a problem with patience. True that may be a bit extreme but it serves to prove my point and reasoning in how you assess your own performance. You need to be very meticulous about how you analyze that data. You also need to be objective about your own game. It won’t do you any good to make up a reason to not acknowledge you are making mistakes or have a hole in your game. By being honest with your game and accepting the data it has established your game will improve significantly.

By establishing goals we create the mindset that we want to improve and get better at the game of poker or any other endeavor in life. The game of poker is constantly evolving and in order to keep up with it you must adopt any method you can to stay ahead of the trends. The game of poker has trends in it just like any other sport. The players see someone making a particular move and it’s working for them and the next thing ya know everyone is doing it. So look at establishing goals as a way to identify not only trends in your own game but as a way of motivating you to become the best poker player you can be. Without goals we have no tangible way to measure our success. When we do measure our successes and failure we can constantly challenge ourselves and our games to be the best they can be,.

When you’re playing the online poker you will be able to contribute on what they called as rake, this is where the online poker website makes money. Then the rakeback means to get some percent rate on the cash present in the poker site account, this will be considered as reward for you in loyalty. This rakeback has been launch originally by a program offering to those elite in poker only, it’s provided to them due to the certain numbers per month in hand. These days several rules had changed, almost everyone may get the rakeback it doesn’t matter how many hands they played already, it will serve as extension for programs that was offered, the sites of pokers in the internet.

This rake makes more money to the online poker room. This money then will be deducted in the pot from room of poker. Typically this rakes was percent rates and the cap of $3 on high limitations. The rakes is available on events, those portions in buy ins are going to pool prices then there’s little fees going to website poker. Those rooms for poker are making such huge cash in rakes which players are contributing. This is never atypical to the single poker player paying at least $3000 on a monthly basis, which is for every single player. Every room of poker has greater to a 10,000 poker players earning so much money.

This rakeback would imply as refund to players. When players of poker do receive the percentage on rake, they need to pay in the room of poker. Normally the offer of rakeback will be between 25 up to 40%; those poker players sometimes have a better rakeback. When you have more rake then there will be more rakeback that you will get. This is typically the use of rakeback.

Players of poker would usually wanted the rakeback; all they need to do is sign up in the room of poker by an affiliate site. The affiliate is the one signing up for the players then they are earning cash prices from every rake of players. There’s lots of affiliate website, they are offering poker player with good deal. Then those sites of rakeback are earning some percentage to the rakebacks that you have, totally the portion will be returned to the bankroll.

Several varieties of poker are fitted to the deals on rakeback. When you’re playing the shorthanded type of poker, you’ll be involved to several pots then more pay on rakes. When playing at a multiple tables on one time there are more hand then rakes pay are greater too. If you’re involved to many pots then you must be playing the rakeback.

I’m not able to see downsides here in rakeback. When you’re able to get back the money then why can’t you take those? Perhaps you need to switch websites because you can only get deals when you’re creating new accounts. But this will not entail lots of works. You’ll be earning lots of money, in saving cash, it depends on the lookout. You need to do that.

Lesson on playing high marginal hands

In poker, there are things that you should do while playing and things that you should not do at all. Some of them might be considered to be stupid mistakes while others are mistakes that cannot be avoided. One thing that you should know as a player is that no matter the number of hands you play, majority of them have to be folded although there are many beginners who ignore this. You can be lucky if you try this out but remember that your luck might not last a long time. What you should do for example is to look at premium hands like very strong aces and high pocket pairs and simply fold them. That way you will be very safe. Amateur players find it very hard to let go of marginal hand after the flop has hit. As an amateur, you might find it to be difficult to lay down if you hit top pair or middle pair with a top kicker. If players are betting like there is no tomorrow and there are straight and draws on the board, then it is a crazy idea to be still involved in a pot holding top pair. You should play with a lot of caution because the best hand on the flop might not always be the best on the river. Incase you are holding a marginal hand and things keep heating up, then you should not be afraid to get out. Poker is a game of smart people who always know when to quite with the exceptional of a few. In order to protect your hand in Texas hold ‘em, you can bet out as much of your stack. Like it has been said time and again, you should avoid involving your self on a table which professionals are playing because despite the fact that you might have your guard on with confidence, things might heat up and you might end up dropping your guard. Under-betting, the pot is usually done by amateur or inexperienced as a way of taking some precaution although any under-betting is not enough.

Over-betting on the other hand is another mistake that inexperienced players tend to make. When this happens, your hands are weakened more than your folds. By over-betting, you can either lose a big pot or win a small one. I really do not know why amateur players ignore position and regardless of the position play a certain set of hands. You should always be ready to protect your hand because if you do not do that then you make it easy for your opponents to draw out on you.

There is a very big difference between playing a tournament and playing cash game. In a tournament, you are likely to protect your stack more because once it goes then you are out of the game. In cash games you can take the risk and put your entire stack on the line because you have read the mood and you know that you are going to win.

Malta is fast becoming a hot-bed of entrepreneurial igaming business brains from across Europe and the rest of the world. A healthy, stable economy coupled with the island’s favourable climate, makes it an extremely attractive location to set up a remote gaming operation.
Getting a remote gaming license in Malta is fairly painless as long as you have your house in order. The application process is effective and very thorough but can be hindered by missing information or incorrect details. The below outlines the documentation you will need at each stage of the process.

Financial Viability & Due Diligence

This is the first stage of the application process to check that your business is financially viable and that all persons involved are financially legitimate.

Required documentation:

Application Form (acquired from the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA) in Malta

Detailed Business Plan

Personal Declaration – should be a form for every shareholder

Copy of passport or ID

Original Birth Certificate

Original Police Conduct or similar certificate

This information will be sent via an LGA contact, the Remote Gaming Control Officer, to an Investigations Officer who will perform a third party database search to determine due diligence of all parties, as well as a Financial Auditor who will liaise with Banks and the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) to confirm financial standing and business viability.
There is a non-refundable fee that must be submitted along with the application form. This fee will be determined based on what class of license you are applying for. License classes are categorised from 1 to 4 and are detailed on the LGA’s website.

Technical Assessment

The second stage moves on to examine the applicant’s ability to carry out the operation. Everything that is required to conduct the business is carefully analysed.

Required documentation:

Memo and Articles

Business Entity Form

Rules and Regulations of games offered

Terms and Conditions

Detailed manual of the system’s hardware and application architecture

Agreements with third parties

The Control Officer will liaise with other Authority personnel in Compliance as well as with the LGA Chief Inspector to investigate all technical documentation provided as well as reviewing game rule. This is often the area where the information submitted is not thorough enough and delays can be caused. Once this process is complete, the applicant will be awarded a provisional license and has the authority to commence operations.

Probationary Period

The applicant is required to operate under their provisional license for a period of 3 months, in which they will be assessed for compliance certification. This is basically a trial period, overseen by the LGA’s Remote Gaming Inspector, in which all systems and business set-ups should be tested and fine-tuned. After the 3 month period the Gaming Inspector will assess the operation and certify the business, all being well. Certification is only required on the components of the system that directly impact on the operation of the games or the reporting of the gaming and financial transactions. The cost of this process is approximately €2,500 for a well documented, standard gaming system.
Once fully licensed, there is an annual fee that must be paid within 15 days of the license being granted. Again, this fee will be dependent on the class of the license held and will need to be paid every year from initial payment date. Licenses are granted on 5 year terms and an application for renewal is required after this period.

Some of the information was found at Company Formation Malta.
